Darío Porley Esteves

Advanced Cryo-Electron Microscopy
Email: Dario.Porley@ista.ac.at
Room: I06.EG.405

Scientific Background

Darío holds a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of the Republic in Uruguay (2017) and a PhD in Biology from the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (2024), working in Florian Schur’s group. During his doctoral research, he focused on the structural characterization of spumavirus capsid assemblies, using advanced cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) methods. Darío joined the Electron Microscopy Facility (EMF) in 2026.

Role

Darío’s primary responsibilities include biological sample preparation, data collection and image processing for cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), including single particle analysis (SPA) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). He is also involved in providing training and support to users.

Specialization

Cryo-EM, SPA, cryo-ET and sub-tomogram averaging, plunge freezing, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), retroviral assembly systems, negative stain, image processing and structure determination.
