Scientific background
Walter was trained in neurobiology at the Universities of Salzburg (Mag, 1993) and Innsbruck (PhD, 1997). He held postdoc positions in Innsbruck (1997-2002) and Oslo (2002-2004), before returning to Innsbruck as Senior Scientist (2004-2013) and habilitating in neurosciences. He joined ISTA in 2013 as Staff Scientist with the EMF, tenured in 2017 and promoted to Senior Staff Scientist in 2022..

Development of sample preparation techniques and analysis procedures for ultrastructural studies of biological materials, focusing on replica preparations, high pressure freezing/freeze substitution and immunolabeling approaches.
